Spatial arrangement of plants

We are investigating whether the salamanders are more likely to fall into plants that are closer to the bog.  We will investigate whether there is any evidence of plants attracting salamanders. Amanda Semenuk made this gif to illustrate pitcher plants (red circles) when they capture at least one salamander (by turning light blue) in 2019.

Stable Isotopes

We use ratios of stable isotopes of carbon to nitrogen found in pitcher plant leaves to help determine how much nutrition the plants derive from the salamanders.  Amanda Semenuk made this plot in late 2019.

Scanning Electron Microscope

We use SEM imaging to explore the biology and morphology of the plant.  This image of pitcher plant trichomes was taken in October 2019 by Mohamed Elmankabady and Amanda Semenuk.
